Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Reviewed Early

Just the other day we saw the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, codenamed Zeus, being Bluetooth certified and now we get to see even more of the device which doesn't hold many secrets anymore.

Taiwanese website ePrice published an early review of the PlayStation Phone having the model number R800i. The device runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and is powered by a 1GHz processor aided by the Adreno 205 GPU. We already know about the 4-inch-ish FWVGA screen with a resolution of 854 x 480 -- possibly TFT but the usage of the Bravia technology like on the Xperia Arc is not yet known - allegedly being as good as iPhone's Retina Display. Additionally, there's a five-megapixel camera at the back with LED flash, dual microphones for noise cancelling as well as two speakers - which will hopefully be able to deliver stereo sound.

The real beauty -- yes, some might argue -- stands in the slide-out Sony PSP Go-like gaming controls which, if popped open, make the device measure around 102mm in width (by the way, the device is approximately 120mm tall). The top-front of the device features a light sensor, proximity sensor as well as a front facing camera for video calling. Four buttons (Back, Menu, Home and Search) are placed at the bottom-front while there are two Left and Right buttons on the right side of the Xperia Play together with an up/down rocker.

Additionally, there's a 3.5mm headphone jack on the left together with the microUSB port for charging and syncing and a power button placed at the top of the smartphone. The SIM and microSD card slot are placed behind the plastic back cover and they seem to be both replaceable on the go, without the need to remove the battery, which by the way is one of 1,500mAh.

Sony Ericsson's own PlayStation Pocket launcher, which will most probably hold the list of available games, is present on the device but, as with previous appearances, it is still empty. So there you have it, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play which will most likely see its debut at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Check out also the two videos embedded below and let us know of your thoughts
